The end is just a new beginning. Wrapping up the decade is pretty important so I thought it would be fitting to look back at 2019 and list my top 19 of 2019. I took some time to recall the highlights of this year. I pulled out the happy times, the small steps forward and the things I remember with a smile. In no particular order, here they are.
Ringing in the New Year with Old and New Friends
I always celebrate the coming of the new year in a special way. (Except for the one year I was grounded when I was 18!) It may not be a big way but I definitely like to spend the time to bring in the new year in a meaningful way.
Miami for the Independent Lodging Conference
It was a warm weekend away from Philadelphia as we dove into Miami's unique hospitality scene. It all took place in the creative, mural covered neighborhood of Wynwood. After a stimulating day of engaging panels and INDIEtalks, we enjoyed an art walk in Wynwood and an evening of Hors d'oeuvres and cocktails with fellow visionaries in the hospitality space. It was a refreshing day to be immersed in Interior Design.
Weekend Getaway in Paris
Paris is a city that many people dream about visiting, and with good reason: it’s beautiful, fascinating and filled with the most amazing architecture and interiors (or at least that’s one of my top reasons!) “Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Successful projects with JKRP
I've been consulting with JKRP architects here in Philadelphia for the past five years. This past year, we created solutions for places that reflect who organizations are and what they aspire to be. We used space, color, materials and light as tools to create healthy, uplifting environments. These spaces enhanced people’s lives in the places they gathered: offices, dwellings, hotels, and more. We created multidimensional, experiential environments shaped by the people who use them.
"Even the Lone Ranger didn't do it alone." Harvey MacKay . Treat your business relationships like friendships. Formality puts up walls, and walls don't foster good business relationships. No one is loyal to a wall... except the one in China.
Top 3 Interior Designers in Philadelphia
“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” — Henry David Thoreau .
When I found out that I won Top Three Interior Designers in Philadelphia, I was so grateful. I want you to know that I NEVER take your support for granted. Through all of the ups and downs I’ve experienced, I wake up every single day thankful to be transforming lives through Interior Design.
Networking is all about connecting with people. But then again, isn't that what life is about? The more time you can find to get out of the office and build true friendships, the farther your business will go. We entrepreneurs need to remember to spend as much time working on our business as we do in our business!
"Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." --Helen Keller Teamwork really does make the dream work!
Italy with Garden State Tile
“Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind.” Seneca . In June I was invited by Garden State tile to take a trip with other interior designers in Philadelphia to Italy. It was an honor to be invited to visit their clients' manufacturing plants to see where all of the magic happens. Thank you to Garden State Tile for refreshing my soul with a trip to Italy together!
Time with Friends and Family
Few things have such a huge impact on happiness and the enjoyment, depth and plain fun of life as the friendships I have.
“A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.” Unknown
Thank you to all of my friends for their love and support.
Business Talk Radio
It was an honor to be featured on Business Talk Radio. A highlight of the year for sure.
“Light is the magical ingredient that makes or breaks a space...” Benjamin Ortiz
My highlight to Light fair International this year was celebrating lighting with the group at Sonneman Lighting. Robert Sonneman is a true visionary!

BDNY connects the most inventive manufacturers and the most influential design minds in the hospitality industry for two days of discovery, education and conversation.
It's an extremely rewarding experience to teach all of my students about the intricacies of Interior Design. It can be challenging at times but, in the end when I see a student excelling and appreciative of the experience, my heart becomes fuller than you can possibly imagine. I am blessed to have had very talented students this past year.
I taught the Final Studio course at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, for the first time this year. It was a real honor and I am grateful for the opportunity.
At the start of this year, I taught a two day workshop to Certificate students. It felt amazing to arm the students with drawing skills to advance their career desires in Interior Design.
Live Music Events
You can’t have the good without the bad, but when you’re feeling a bit down in the dumps, a live music concert with the lights, the energy, the sound of the guitars, the people and the atmosphere is a great way to boost your happiness and put a smile on your face! Attending a live music event is a great way to take a break and a breather from daily life and to let your hair down for some fun.
We Care event with Herman Miller
Together with a team from JKRP, I volunteered at this amazing event at the Boys and Girl's Club in Philadelphia. We helped children ages 5 - 13 craft holiday cards for family members.
Delia Designs Turned 10
This is my biggest accomplishment of the year. Ten years. It's been an incredible ride. Through the ups and downs (and there have been plenty of both), there haven't been many constants in my life except for you, the Delia Designs community. From my first days as a solopreneur, you've been there. And in the darkest hours of the past decade, when I've felt the most alone, and insecure, you've been there, too.
A decade is a long time. Few things in our lives or in the world last that long. Last year, I read through the Small Business Administration that 50% of Small Businesses fail within the first five years. I'm honored and humbled that you've stuck with me all this time, and I promise that in the decade ahead, Delia Designs will deliver even better Interior Design Services. I believe in creating interiors that transform lives and in delivering remarkable services. I believe that all of this can be done not just without evil, but with real generosity of spirit and action.
Big or small, what were the events, the words, and the thoughts that made a positive difference in your life these past 12 months? “We do not remember days.We remember moments.” Cesare Pavese, Italian poet This year has not all been good, but it was important for me to take time to recall and appreciate the highlights and successes. I hope you look back with appreciation for 2019 but with anticipation for a fresh new year!
In addition to being a Philadelphia residential Interior Designer, I also design boutique hotels, fitness centers, office spaces, multi family development projects, other commercial spaces such as retail spaces, and the senior living community throughout the tri state area. We work here in Philadelphia, the main line, and even Nationally! If you enjoyed reading this piece please leave a comment and let us know. AND, let's get social.
