Picnic on the Beach

Summer is in full swing and while it may look different this year than in past years, we’re still enjoying small gatherings with friends and family.  We are just doing it outside instead of inside.  I've spent the last few weeks at the beach trying to beat the heat.  When I moved to Philadelphia I downsized considerably, which means I gave away a lot of my beach essentials and my picnic gear.   I've started to think of all those things I used to own and so I created a small list of items that I wish I still had on hand for picnic gatherings: A beach umbrella for shade, some comfortable chairs, a practical picnic basket and a few more.  Those basic items that make days at the beach a bit more comfortable and long-lasting.

I'm not sure I'll be investing in all of them, but seeing as this will likely be the summer of endless socially-distanced picnics as the only way to see friends, I have a feeling they may come in more handy than ever!  So, here are my Summer Picnic Must Haves!

And how cute is this complete picnic set from Crate & Barrel? I love that you can use the lid as a tray too.

If your style is a bit more boho, you can join me in my love of this simple beach set up from Erica @honestlyWTF  who paired the hottest lounge chair of the summer with a gorgeous block print beach umbrella she purchased in India. A quick Etsy search led me to a near identical one!

If you go for a classic stripe at the beach (who doesn't!?) then this selection is for you. For those who struggle with the beach umbrella, I wanted to include this easy pop up beach tent as a secondary option!  There are quite a few out there at reasonable prices and they feel a bit more realistic and usable for families as well as good social distancing practices!

Some of these items are steals (the cooler tote! and the melamine bowls) and some a bit more of a splurge - but worth it - depending on your level of beach or picnic commitment this summer and beyond. If I were an everyday beach goer, you better believe I'd be adopting some of these super cute umbrellas and loungers!  For now, I've got a few items and trying to decide on which to invest in next!
