Curved Sofas

Up on the blog this week, it's all about curvy furniture and feminine lines in interior design.  We’ve seen a major comeback of the super popular Mid-century design, curved, sculptural sofa.  It feels very fresh and new, and creates conversation areas effortlessly.  Smoothed edges are conducive to housing more people and rounded backs make face-to-face interaction all the more seamless. These seats have all the power of a sunken living room when it comes to crafting an intimate space, without requiring custom construction.  I've rounded up a few of my favorites and how to style and incorporate them into your existing interior design.

Curved sofas and high-back armchairs in gorgeous rich velvets give an instant glamorous vibe and can make a statement even in the most simple of spaces.  Not your grandma's parlor couch, this rounded number feels fresh and modern in distressed velvet upholstery.

Curved sofas are a statement piece, so treat them like one!

Curved sofas are best styled away from the walls. Float them in the middle of the room, so the curved back is exposed.

If using one curved sofa, place it facing the TV or fireplace, and use a couple of accent chairs on either side to complete the look.

If you have a larger room and can use two sofas, place them facing each other, in the center of the room.

Repeat the curves. A square coffee table isn’t going to cut it with a curved sofa, so incorporate a round or oval shape to complement the sofa.

Savvy Interior Designer Tips:

If you’re searching online for a curvy sofa, be sure to also search for conversational, serpentine and crescent sofas to yield better results!

Additionally, contoured sofas can have a larger footprint than those with straight backs, so double-check that your chosen sofa can fit in your space.

Curved sofas add an architectural edge to a room, creating new shapes that lead the eye throughout the space in a smooth, sometimes serpentine way.  So, embrace this interior design trend with open arms.
