Cozy up for Fall

Up on the blog this week I'm helping you get the interior of your home ready for hibernation season.  Here in Philadelphia and in the tri-state area in general, we have been pretty lucky with the weather.  However, we may finally have to accept that barbecue season has come to a close, put the paper lanterns and the pool floats away and take the party back inside.  It's ok, read on for some things you can do to create a warm and inviting interior for you and your boo or your unending party guests.

Get ready to hibernate with richer tones, metallic finishes and wonderful textures, offset with roaring fires and steaming mugs of hot chocolate (with a splash of something decadent).  With staying in set to be the new going out, it’s time to create a happy home to cocoon yourself in.

Cozy Throws and Pillows

A very easy interior design tip to create the best staying in vibe is to add a cozy throw blanket and some luxurious pillows.  Look for sumptuous velvet in rich tones, chunky cable knits and faux fur.  If you’ve saved up to buy a seasonal treat, bring home a lovely cashmere throw. Resist the urge to confine these snuggly goods to the bedroom alone. Stuff your sofa with additional throw pillows and make sure that the interior of your home exudes visual warmth as well.  My favorite go to retailers for velvet and faux fur are Restoration Hardware and West Elm.

Plush Area Rugs

Add a few lovely area rugs that not only keep your feet warm, but also bring in color and character to the existing style of your interior.  I love the idea of layering in a faux hide over top of an existing neutral area rug.  Also look for hand woven wools and fluffy rugs with lots of pile.

Take a tour of my modern and minimalist living room. My interior design style is a blend of minimalism, mid-century modern, Scandinavian and SoCal vibes. #test

Candles

Have you ever noticed that candlelight just makes everything feel more intimate, romantic and cozy?  Isn't that the feeling you would like to recreate in your home for the Fall?  I do!  Flickering candlelight can turn the dreary and cold Autumn night into a magical and intimate setting. This is especially true if you don't have a fireplace.  Just use a few candles to usher in a charming warm glow!

Lux Layers in the Bedroom

This one probably goes without saying, but there are plenty of ways to make your bedroom look warm and cozy without going overboard. While several different layers of bedding (including quilt covers and comforters) often work for the bed, make sure the rest of the room also gets a winter makeover. Add some interesting lighting and fill the empty corner with a stylish new accent chair. Winter is a season when you realize that potentially having a small bedroom is not necessarily a bad thing!
